Net Impact Awards Top Ranking to Simmons Chapter!

We are proud to announce that the Simmons School of Management has been awarded a prestigious “Gold” Ranking from Net Impact, an international nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire, educate, and equip individuals to use the power of business to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world. There are more than 250 volunteer chapters of Net Impact located throughout the world, and only 7% of chapters attained Gold status. Simmons is in good company at the top of this list, joined by schools like the Yale School of Management, the Johnson School at Cornell, the Fuqua School of Business at Duke, and the Ross School of Business at University of Michigan. A full listing of chapter ratings may be found here.

In line with the SOM’s mission of educating women for power and principled leadership, the Simmons Net Impact chapter aims to create a better world through the power of business. Members of the Simmons Net Impact chapter are united by the idea that business can both earn profits and create positive change. Together, they work to promote responsible business and advance social, environmental and economic sustainability practices and teachings at the Simmons SOM. To reach these ends, Net Impact is considered a network: not simply a student club or organization.

Over the past year, the SOM Net Impact chapter–under the guidance of chapter leaders Nicole Adriance and Megan DiPerri, and with the help of graduate assistant Erin Dopfel and many other dedicated student ambassadors–has launched an aggressive campaign to promote the power of sustainable business and host events that enhance the SOM experience. This has been made possible through the support of the Simmons School of Management and a generous grant from Eileen Fisher. During this time, the school has hosted a series of valuable events, including a Socially Responsible Investing forum, Careers in CSR discussion with Microsoft’s Dan Bross, and the first in a series of intercollegiate Sustainability Research Colloquiums.

The organization’s premiere event, the CSR/Sustainability Panel, is taking place at 5:30pm on Monday July 19th. The event is titled, “From Ancillary to Integrated: CSR as the Modern Competitive Advantage.” Senior-level panelists featured include representatives from Ahold, Biogen Idec, EMC, Fidelity, and HaglerHomrich Sustainability Consulting.
